We’d like to introduce to you, Shorty. He’s a three year old Labrador/St. Bernard /Dachshund mix who provides endless love and dedication to his owners… and to food. A bit overweight for his size, we’d like to take you through Shorty’s journey to getting healthy!
His owners have ramped up the exercise regiment and switched him to a diet of Verve, which is the Honest Kitchen’s low calorie, beef based formula. Shorty’s two weeks into his diet and has already seen improvement with his weight, energy levels and breath!

This is in response to Susan’s comment. You’re absolutely right about the amount of weight loss Shorty underwent in the first two weeks after switching to Honest Kitchen food but there is a good explanation for that quick loss. Before the switch, Shorty and his sisters were on high-grade kibble but we made that food available all the time. Before Shorty became a member of our family, his sisters (a Boston terrier mix and a purebred JRT) were always “grazers” and never had trouble with their “waistlines”. But since switching to Honest Kitchen, they all eat the recommended amount of food twice a day. So Shorty underwent two changes regarding the times he ate and the amount. Since that time, he is still losing weight but at a much slower and healthy rate.

Two lbs in two weeks on a 50 lb dog? That would be fast for an adult human. Is Shorty getting vitamin and mineral supplements?
I had very nice results on my French Bulldog using Preference with low-fat ground turkey and some nutritional supplements to make sure all his needs were being met. His energy level shot through the roof and he started doing things he could never do before. But since I was trying to drop about 10% of his body weight, I expected it to take time.
