Food for thought: Pumpkins

pumpkin

After Halloween and the fall season, pumpkins are usually out of sight and out of mind.

However, there’s a reason that we love this rusty-orange squash and why pumpkin is a key ingredient in one of our favorite supplements, Perfect Form. Pumpkin is a nourishing, digestive aid; it can help firm up loose stools and relieve constipation. Use pure 1-2 teaspoons for small dogs and 1-3 tablespoons for large dogs of pure canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) as a topper to their meal or as a treat.

Because a little bit goes a long way, you might have leftovers. We suggest mixing the pumpkin with a little water and freezing it in an ice-cube tray for a fun, stomach soothing treat. Or, you can mix it with some yogurt, peanut butter, or hydrated Honest Kitchen food for a fun Kong filling.

We use pumpkin and just put a few scoops into the dogs’ food if their stools are a little too runny. They don’t LOVE it, but they end up eating it… Wish they loved it as it is very good for them. I may think about mixing it with peanut butter as a kong treat. That is a good idea… thanks!
