Lily came to live with us in October 2008. She was a mere 10 weeks old and had spent the first 10 weeks of her life living outside in the Florida summer heat. Her first vet visit revealed two ear infections, a bacterial infection, and extremely itchy, flaky skin. We immediately shaved her down in order to clean the bacterial infection, and she was bathed with a special medicated shampoo that as supposed to take care of Lily’s itchy skin.
We endured weeks of washing her daily with the medicated shampoo – without improvement. At this time, we talked to our vet about changing Lily’s food to see if maybe it would help. She recommended a store-bought kibble, but our vet recommended we switch to a “premium quality diet,” so with his advice we changed Lily’s food to a prescription puppy. This food certainly didn’t help.
From this point, we tried many different shampoos, medications, and steriods. We changed her food several times trying tons of puppy food. It seemed nothing was making a difference. Lily was still itching and biting at herself constantly. Around this time, Lily turned one. I started researching adult foods and came across information that grains were often a source of irritation in the canine diet. After doing some more research, we immediately switched her to a grain-free kibble. This actually improved her skin slightly and we began to feel hopeful that Lily could stop itching. However, she kept getting ear infections.
Finally, we came across the Honest Kitchen. I read about it on a website and decided that we should try it. I read all about the company and ingredients online so I ordered a couple sample packets. Lily loved the food. She licked her bowl so clean that I was left wondering if I’d actually fed her! Since the tasting was a success, I went ahead and ordered a four pound box of Force for Lily. Within a couple of days, she stopped the itching completely. Also, she’s only had one ear infection in 2010 and it was because of a foreign object that was stuck in her ear. We were so excited that Lily’s constant itching was finally over!
Since our initial success with Force, we have tried several varieties of the Honest Kitchen. The itchy skin has never returned, even when we tried the formulas that contain grains. Lily (and her three sisters) enthusiastically scarf down their meals twice per day, never getting bored of their dinner! They love all the flavors from Embark to Zeal. Our house is definitely and Honest Kitchen home! We will never go back to kibble.

The story about Lily sounds alot like my 2 year old Havanese.
She has been itchy skin and biting her feet and leg. We have gone the meds and speacial diet from the vet, but she still has the itcy skin. So I think that I am going to order some Honest Kitchen and see if I have results with my havanese.
