CONS: Using the recommended amount of water, the final result is quite soupy, leading us to cut back on water. I always wonder if the food is able to fully hydrate this way, but don't want to add more of the mix and over-feed either.
NEUTRAL: There is a pretty strong fish smell... but it's fish... it's suppose to smell that way. :-)

I have two 14lb terriers that eat Zeal and they both love it! (We've also tried force and embark which they also loved.) We've been using THK for almost a year now.
I've had Barnaby for 5 years and he very recently and out-of-the-blue developed acid reflux. That's what prompted the switch from Force/Embark to Zeal. I'd heard from others that a fish-based dog food is good for that, and people specifically recommended THK's Zeal. And it worked!!! I am sooo happy and relieved! Otherwise we would have had to endure a stressful process of switching brands (potentially multiple times), and I love THK! (FYI for those in the same boat I also give him 1/2 tsp organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar with each meal (breakfast and dinner) and that has helped also.)
However, since I switched him to Veal I have noticed him try to eat some poop in the yard sometimes, which he has never done in the time I've had him (I always supervise him because he's small and crafty and gets into all manner of mischief.) So I'm wondering if there's some mineral or vitamin that Veal is low on (that Embark and Force isn't)?
Lexie is my other dog, and she needs a high-fiber diet. Veal is rather low in fiber so we're supplementing our own flaxseed powder (1tsp with each meal, breakfast and dinner) from the local farmer's market and that's working great for her. If I don't supplement, her anal glands get very impacted, very quickly.
And for those worried about the smell - it doesn't smell bad! It does have a fishy smell, but it's mild and not a bad smell. Also, the new formula actually smells delicious! So delicious that I had to try it lol. (It smells better than it tastes for my human taste buds!)
Veal is a life-saver for my dog with acid reflux, but he started eating poop occasionally since he's been on it; my other dog needs fiber supplements with Zeal; the fish doesn't smell bad.
