| The Honest Kitchen Unveils a Foundation
to Health for Sensitive Pets For Immediate Release April 20th 2006 San Diego, CA, The Honest Kitchen, Inc., has announced the release of a new grain-free, meat-free diet for dogs. The food is intended as a ‘foundation’ or base-mix diet, to which customers’ own choice of meats may be added to create a complete and balanced, fresh, healthy meal. “This recipe is ideal for many very allergic dogs” commented company spokesperson Lucy Postins, BA. “It is completely free of all grains, flax, potatoes and meats. It’s a fairly simple, almost minimalist recipe that can really be tailored to accommodate a sensitive dog’s specific dietary requirements”. While there is no such thing as a universally acceptable diet for all dogs who suffer from food intolerances, Preference offers a new way to feed dogs that do react to some of the more common allergenic ingredient in commercial pet foods. The formulation for Preference includes such delicacies as Alfalfa, Sweet Potatoes, Spinach, Celery, Apples, Bananas, and Zucchini. The recipe does not contain carrots, beets, or peas which are cheaper ingredients that can aggravate health problems in some canines, according to the company. “We have received so many reports of food hypersensitivity afflicting dogs – some animals literally can only eat meats such as ostrich, venison, quail or other very exotic protein sources. We realized that a market was emerging for a diet that could be more versatile – just a simple combination of vegetables and fruits along with a vitamin premix to allow meat to be added according to the customer’s own choice - without throwing the critical Calcium: Phosphorus ratios outside of their optimal limits” explains Postins, the company’s director of marketing. Like all The Honest Kitchen’s recipes, Preference is made from gently dehydrated raw ingredients, to help preserve the nutritional integrity. It must be hydrated with warm water before serving and is not intended as a stand-alone diet. Added meat, fish, or another protein source is required. Preference will be offered in 10 lbs & 4 lbs buckets, along with a convenient single-serving 4 oz travel size and 1 oz mini samples.
