| Thinking Inside the Box – The Honest Kitchen Unveils new Eco-Friendly Packaging Solution
For Immediate Release - September 12th 2007
San Diego, CA - The Honest Kitchen today unveiled a brand new packaging solution that is sensitive to the environment, safe and protective for its food-grade contents, re-sealable,
economical - and beautiful.
The company sought inspiration, advice and feedback from California to Europe to come up with a unique package to be proud of. The look-and-feel of the new packaging is fresh and vibrant with a
strong organic influence, and graced with the company’s newly face-lifted logo. The packaging is designed to be customer-centric, with a slightly quirky feel.
“Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle. These are the golden words in packaging use today. The Earth is a precious resource and food safety is top at our list of priorities.” Commented Lucy Postins,
the company’s director of marketing.
The company’s packaging solution reduces materials usage and waste with a fine, recyclable ‘minimalist’ and unprinted barrier bag that efficiently protects the food inside. The
bag is fitted with a fold-down coffee tie to keep the food fresh after opening.
That bag is enclosed in a beautiful 100% recycled box made from unbleached kraft paperboard. The box is printed with soy- based inks and the finished product is 100% biodegradable or recyclable
again after use, too.
The packaging launch is complemented by a stainless steel specialty storage canister, which customers can decant the food into if desired. Steel, which has an infinite recycle-life, is food safe
and convenient for continued re-use. The canisters keep out air, moisture and most inquisitive hounds, too. They will double receptacles for specialty holiday merchandizing when filled with the
company’s cookies and other goodies, as well as for valued-customer giveaways.
The company sought inspiration from human food grade breakfast cereal boxes in selecting its new packaging solution. “Since our products are human food grade, it was important to highlight
this with the packaging.” explains Postins. “In addition, sensitivity for the environment was absolutely paramount. We wanted everything to be produced locally here in North America
to prevent reliance on excessive transportation and carbon emissions, and we were adamant that we would eliminate virgin materials wherever possible and completely eliminate waste by using only
those materials that are re-usable, recyclable and biodegradable” she continued.
The Honest Kitchen is continuing its commitment to reducing its ‘ecological paw print’ by replacing several ingredients with certified organic alternatives in 2008 as well as sourcing
wild-crafted herbs for its supplements and having a ‘strong green focus’ in the new downtown offices where it will be relocating this fall.
The company is located in San Diego, CA and was founded in 2002.
