This National Coverage across the US and Canada featured The Honest Kitchen for our unique dehydrated Human Grade- Pet Foods. The story first aired on our Local San Diego News 8 who had contacted The Honest Kitchen for our Expert Nutritional Advice regarding 'Atkins for Dogs'.

The main feature of the story was the role of high protein, low carbohydrate diets for Canine Health. The Honest Kitchen line of pet foods, which contains two completely grain- free diets, was hailed as an 'Atkins Diet' for dogs. " Our main foucus is actually creating natural, wholesome canine diets that replicate to a certain extent, the diet that a wolf or wild dog would eat in nature. We use minumally processed, whole ingredients that are gently dehydrated rather than extruded or canned", explains Lucy Postins, an expert pet nutritionist and director of markieting. Lucy further went on to explain the health benefits of Grain- Free foods for our pets. The company has found that there are numerous health benefits associated with restricting total carbohydrate content to levels that more closely resemble what a dog would eat in the wild. Dogs simply don't need too many carbohydrates to be healthy, and the very high carb content found in kibbles and more conventional pet foods seems to contribute to dental and gastrointestinal problens, as well as allergies- many dogs are highly allergic to grains. In addition, there is considerable research to suggest that diets that are deficient in fats and protein can lead to heath problems such as excessive shedding, dry skin and lack of pigmentation, chronic ear infections, compromised reproductive and organ systems, aggression, and even epilepsy and some types of cancers.

The company's original focus was not to create 'Atkins for dogs' but to produce diets that support the long term health of dogs through ingredient integrity, optimal nutritional profiles and a focus on daily variety.
