I’m a Dog Behaviourist who believes in a Natural Way of Life for My own pack who consists of 4 French Bulldogs (1 with severe allergies) and a Chihuahua. I choose a raw diet but found it messy and time consuming, super inconveinent, not very portable and I never felt confident about what was still ‘good’ and ended up throwing out tons of food all the time but worst of raw for me was no one in my family besides me would feed the dogs and when I worked this made for very hungry dogs! Not to mention I myself have a weak stomach and would actually get naesous due to the smell of the raw so we switched to a High Quality kibble Grain Free to avoid all the cons.I felt guilty because I know raw is best but let myself be lulled into a false sense of security thinking “it’s balanced, an ok dogfood- they’ll be fine” but when my Frenchies went bald within a week of the switch to kibble we knew we needed another option! They looked awful, their stools were loose & smelly and they itched horribly plus they had no energy whatsoever. AND they hated it- they would rarely eat even 1/2 their food and these dogs could chow down before! After some research we discovered The Honest Kitchen & fought to have my local pet store carry it! After a month or so they agreed to order it in, just for me, and keep it behind the counter. At first the consistency threw me for a loop- I figured the dogs wouldnt like it. It smelled mild (a nice change!) but I thought that the dogs wouldnt be won over by it. Wrong. They LOVED it! Now we can all stomach feeding the dogs, their fur is thick and they are healthy & active again. Keen is an excellent- and The Honest Kitchen is all I will ever feed my pack!

I was bummed by the prevalent addition of flaxseed tho… eta: is the addition of copper to HK an issue for our breed? So for an example there "Love" formula is $95 per 10lbs, 10lbs makes 40lbs. And hopefully you actually can get 40lbs from the 10lbs. I find $95.00 for 40lbs expensive especially when you are feeding two dogs! But of course it all depends on how much you have to feed, and what you find expensive. I do think it's a very good product that's easy to prepare. I think it's a good alternative to feeding raw especially if you do a lot of traveling with your dog. Edited to add: I do see their turkey formula is only $55.00 for 10lbs. That's pretty good if it actually makes 40lbs.!! Can anyone verify that it makes 40lbs??? I know these are U.S. prices and up here we tend to pay a lot more for dog food. I'm going to check into this more in the new year. Here is there website Keen | Human Grade Dog Food | Low Gluten Dog Food | The Honest Kitchen [...]
