Grain-free, Gluten-free dog food for adult maintenance for dogs of all breeds, and sizes.
This natural dog food diet was designed to cater to adult dogs of all breeds and sizes. Zeal is ideal for sensitive dogs that need a grain and gluten free dog food or who may have a sensitivity to the more popular protein sources, such as poultry or beef. Zeal is naturally low-carb, with just 36.4% carbohydrates. Low carb diets are often indicated as part of a holistic approach to cancer recovery.
Zeal is made with Ethoxyquin-free line-caught Haddock, wild Whiting and wild Salmon. Our Icelandic Haddock is wild caught using a line and hook, in the cold clean waters off the coast of Iceland. Our Blue Whiting is wild-caught in the waters of Scandinavia and the Arctic. It is one of the most abundant fish stocks in the semi-pelagic water masses of the northeast. Like all of our diets, it’s 100% human-grade, made in the USA, and does not contain corn, soy, rice, beet pulp or wheat. Just add water for a fresh, wholesome and human grade meal.

We just began feeding our Cushing’s Pom (10 yrs. old, 7lbs, almost bald) the Zeal food. He loves it, and so far, so good…no tummy issues. It occurred to me that the dogs might enjoy the food as a treat too, so I stuffed 2 kongs with it and froze them. Wow! Both dogs had a great time and the treats lasted a while, and were so much healthier and lower fat (very important with these dogs) than ‘kong stuffing’, or peanut butter. Yay! I am hoping this food will make a positive change in my dog’s health, but it is way to early to tell. They sure like the taste, though!
My two German Shepherd rescues eat a mixture of Honest Kitchen, either Zeal, Embark, Force or Thrive and my own homecooked organic food with meat, quinoa and lots of garden vegetables along with pulverized egg shell and flax oil. I have not found any Honest Kitchen that they did not like, but since I keep them on the lean side for joint issues, they will eat anything! What Honest Kitchen has done for us is keep our digestive systems calm. Before I used Honest Kitchen my female shepherd often had loose stools and an upset tummy. My vet recommend HK and it seemed to change our tummy problmes so we are happy.
I have a 3 year old Olde English Bulldog who has suffered from alot of allergies since he was 8 months old. He has to get a monthly allergy shot as he is mostly allergic to types of grass, trees, etc. This food was worked wonders with helping reduce itchiness and rashes that he used to get in between his shots. This food is an amazing quality and it takes up alot less space then traditional raw food that needs to be kept frozen. I finally feel confident that I can keep my dogs allergies under control and might be able to stop his monthly allergy shots in the future thanks to this food. I just wish you guys made bigger cases for larger dogs!
Thank you, thank you, Honest Kitchen for making Zeal. My Bernese Mountain Dog was recently diagnosed with IBD and Lymphangectasea – the diagnoses were awful as they aren’t curable, and even worse, he wouldn’t eat any of the low-fat kibble dog foods we tried. And a low-fat diet + medication is the only way to manage his diseases. The poor guy has lost nearly 40 lbs in the past year. We couldn’t even do raw food (which is harder to prep/buy/travel with) as he’s on immune-suppressing medication right now and couldn’t handle the bacteria risk. Then I tried Zeal upon the recommendation of my vet and he devoured it. I’ve been feeding him Zeal + chicken/turkey/cottage cheese to get as many calories in him as possible for now and he’s gained about 5 lbs back in the past ten days. While not cheap, I think it’s a fair price for a great healthy product. And it’s so easy to feed to him, prep, take on the road, etc. Bless you guys!
The ounces in a cup do vary depending on how ‘packed’ you make a cup, as well as the chunkiness of each particular blend, and the density of ingredients (which varies depending on harvest and natural moisture content. On average, most of our foods are about 4 oz or 115g per cup but it would be best to measure out a cup and weigh it on your own scale if you want a very precise quantity.
When I feed Honest Kitchen, I have a nice kitchen scale and prefer to feed by weight (dry ounces) instead of cups, since I’ve found it to be more precise, and reliable day-to-day. Can you please share how many dry-ounces are in one cup of Zeal?
I recently tried Zeal. Both of my dogs are incredibly picky eaters, and extremely spoiled. I have tried many forms of Raw and Dehydrated foods with out much success. My wonderful vet Dr. Jenna Hauck from VetAcuWellness, in Jacksonville Beach, Fl. who practices acupuncture, nutrition, chiropractic and herbal therapies carries Honest Kitchen, and strongly recommended it.
My Molly (a tiny Maltese/Yorkie) is biggest Diva around, and she loves the Zeal. She also has extreme skin problems including allergies to fleas. I believe Zeal along with holistic measures are helping heal her skin. Thank you to The Honest Kitchen for making an incredible food, and Dr. Jenna for being a retailer.
Sincerely, Melisa Karrh
