Welcome
Did you know that last Friday was Take Your Dog to Work Day? Here at the Honest Kitchen, we celebrate that everyday, but know that there are those of you who aren't quite as fortunate. Perhaps though you do work for a pet friendly
company....
tell us about it!Your company might be selected to win some
Smooches and
Nuzzles, so you can share some Honest Kitchen lovin' with your friends.
Another holiday is coming up, too... The Fourth of July is a great day for get-togethers and BBQs, but it can be an especially stressful time for your pets. Please make sure to keep your pets
inside of your home well in advance of any loud fireworks displays. Not only will your pet be grateful and less stressed, but you will too since you'll know exactly where your buddies are. |

Honest Kitchen Happenings
The Honest Kitchen would like to extend a warm welcome to Jenna Hill, the newest addition to our corporate team. Jenna brings in tow two Boston Terriers - Texas and Roxi. We love her for many reasons, but we must share that she's a
fantastic baker and painted some awesome pictures of the resident Terriers here at the office. Would you like to welcome Jenna to the Honest Kitchen family? Say hello, send photos, and ask her for recipes at

Summer's Here – Help your Pup keep cool!
Our brand new

The event was organized by celebrity dog trainer Mimi Germain and proceeds benefited
Much Love Animal Rescue which has been working hard to aid abused and abandoned animals in need, in the Los Angeles area.
The party was the perfect venue to launch
Ice Pups; there were about 100 dogs in attendance ranging from Chihuahuas to Mastiffs and they all appreciated and Ice Pup or two to help them keep their cool on the balmy LA summer night!
Now your pup, too, can enjoy this refreshing snack –
Ice Pups are available for sale online now!

Heat Stroke
Bikini weather is nearly here, but don't forget that your pets can't disrobe to cool off. It's important that you take steps to ensure that your pet doesn't end up with heat stroke, a serious and potentially fatal condition.
There are a few things that can predispose or contribute to your pet ending up with heat stoke:
- leaving a dog locked in a hot car (even in shade and with the windows down - you must consider humidity, too)
- confined in any outdoor space without shade
- no access to water
- short-nosed dogs, dogs that suffer from bronchial problems or cardiovascular disease are in a high risk group for a predisposition to heat stroke
Symptoms of heat stroke
-rapid, frantic, and noisy breathing
-tongue and other mucous membranes are bright red
-saliva is thick/frothy
Extreme cases will include these symptoms
-unsteady, staggering gait
-diarrhea
-rectal temperature over 106 degrees fahrenheit
What to do
- move to a cooler location immediately
- if the dog has a high temperature or a staggering gait, submerge dog in tub full of cold water or hose off (making certain that cold water is reaching skin)
- start for the nearest animal hospital and make sure that air conditioning is on full-blast |

June's Recipe: Juicing for Pets
Juicing is an easy way to meet your daily requirements for fruits and veggies and to consume some raw foods. It's also a great thing to share with your pet as they can also reap some benefits. Here are some fruits and veggies we like and
the benefits associated with them.
Beets: purifies blood, alleviates constipation, aids the liver
Celery: heals wounds, alleviates constipation, reduces liver congestion
Carrots: supports lungs, spleen, pancreas, and liver
Apples: eases thirst, reduces fever, eases dry, hot lungs (green apples also cleanse the liver)
Pineapple: aids in digestion of starches and protein, relieves chronic lung congestion, and has anti-inflammatory properties
In the last few years juicing has become quite mainstream, so it's pretty easy to find juicers or pre-made 100% juice with no added sugars. |
