Eclipse came to live with me in August of 2011 at the age of 7 years (average life expectancy for an Irish Wolfhound is 6 1/2 years), so she was already a senior dog in her breed. She has been plagued with health issues since she came to me. She is very prone to infections of any sort (skin, urinary, pyometra, mastitis, and diarrhea), she developed a heart issue (VPCs/a-fib with moderate DCM), and since last fall, has had to battle frequent pneumonia. Lyme disease and neck and back pain have also been an issue. She had a bad reaction to one of the medications she was on for pneumonia, and she developed head and leg tremors. After stopping the meds, the tremors stopped but she now has occasional fecal incontinence. She was just diagnosed with megaesophagus, finally, this spring, and it was a very hard battle for me to find a diet that not only helped her megaesophagus but agreed with her very sensitive tummy. Also she needs about 2000 kcal per day to keep her at a good weight, so this was also a challenge. A rep for another food company told me about The Honest Kitchen and how she had seen it do wonders for rescue dogs and other dogs with megaesophagus. At that time I was on my 4th type of kibble with disastrous results (several loads of dog bed laundry and much house cleaning), and I had been cooking for her. I was getting pretty desperate.
Eclipse is part way through her second box of Thrive, and she is doing great!!! Making the food in a "pudding" consistency helps is slide down into her stomach with ease, and she loves it! I am still transitioning her over off of the cooked food and doing this very very slowly to prevent any digestive upset. But I have already noticed she seems to have much more vigor, a better-looking coat, and just overall seems to feel better. Thank You!
