True Story: Sora
- Doberman Pinscher
- Other - Blastomycosis
Our girl Sora was diagnosed with Blastomycosis, a fungus that lives in the ground near water or in woods. We went many months with no diagnosis and worse yet, misdiagnosis and wrong treatments - and she got worse and worse. The vets were convinced it was cancer, but then after 5 biopsies, (lungs, nose, nasal cavity, draining wounds and lymph nodes) they finally ruled out cancer and we got the right diagnosis of Blasto.
This disease got the best of her. Her nose was bloody and crusty and was being eaten away, her body was filled with draining wounds, she was on three legs because one of the wounds was particularly painful, and she lost her will to live. She just lay on the couch under the blankets shivering. This was so unlike her. She was always a VERY active dog, interested in everything and always on the go.
Once she was diagnosed correctly, she was prescribed Itraconazole, an antifungal, and even though she had always gotten 5 star kibble, we decided to get her off processed foods. So after much research, we decided to try Honest Kitchen Preference base, and add our own fresh meat and extras. Her will to live is back, her nose is back to normal color (although some permanent damage was done) her wounds are almost gone, her coat is shiny, her weight is good and she looks and feels great! She even counter-surfed yesterday! (I have to take the good with the bad I suppose)
Now, of course the anti-fungal medication was the first line of attack against this horrible disease, but the good food allowed her immune system to defeat this thing and she has recovered so fast that the Vets at the clinic are actually stunned. They have never seen a dog recover so fast in such a short amount of time, especially one they thought was dying! All I can say is… Thank you Honest Kitchen for making such a great product! I have my Sora back.
