A Quick Look at Our Chard

We were excited to receive some photos recently from one of our suppliers, showing fields of Chard that have been planted especially for The Honest Kitchen!

Our Chard is grown on the Lüchow-Dannenberg region of Germany nestled between the cities of Hamburg and Hanover, in the state of Lower Saxony. The river Elbe winds its way through the northern part of this farming region. The banks just south are known as the “Altes Land” (Old Country). The area enjoys a gentle local climate and fertile soil, and is the state’s richest agricultural area.

Our grower has nearly 100 years of farming tradition, as well as extensive experience in the use of dehydration technologies, which makes them one of the leading and most respected producers of air dried vegetables and herbs. The innovative technology used for the drying leads to long-lasting retention of each crop’s natural phytonutrients, aroma and color.

Chard is a centuries-old food that’s high in vitamins A, K, and C.  It’s also rich in minerals, dietary fiber, protein and potent antioxidants. Like other dark green leafy veggies, its highly nutritious leaves make it a popular and important addition to healthful diets.
