Customer Success Story
We love when our customers share their success stories with us!
This story about Bernie just pulled at our heartstrings. We’re so glad Honest Kitchen helped him to become a happy and healthy pup!
We were introduced to Bernie via the nightly local news. He had been badly burned and left in a box at the Chula Vista Animal Facility. It was unknown what exactly burned him but it was believed to be a caustic material as his tongue was badly ulcerated from him trying to lick it off. After weeks of intensive Medical Care, he turned a corner and became eligible for adoption. We were chosen to be his Guardians.
While there were no anticipated long-term health issues, it was unclear exactly what if any damage had been done to his digestive tract. Most of his hair grew back with the exception of the back of one leg, a hip, and his rib area. He had days where he didn’t want to eat and had pretty bad diarrhea. Those days became more and more frequent and he started passing blood. It was obvious it was starting to take a toll on his health as he became very lethargic and uncomfortable. Test from our veterinarian was not clear as to what exactly was going on but I was unwilling to start him on steroids. After doing a great deal of my own research, trial and error with certain feed, I pulled him off of all commercially manufactured Pet Foods. We had tried dozens of feeds, all of them expensive.
I started him on Honest Kitchen Veggie, Nut & Seed Base Mix and worked with a few different proteins. After a very short period of time, we realized that we had found the magic combination! A good digestive enzyme targeting the colon, raw beef or lamb and a teaspoon of coconut oil a day in addition to the base mix. We had one morning early on when he was slightly uncomfortable but nothing to the degree we had been experiencing. Since that day, he is not had any issues. Fantastic poops, energy is back, and enthusiasm to eat.
I cannot speak more highly of this product. It gave us our happy, crazy, little rotten white dog back.
