Pecks Buffalo & Blueberry Cookies Currently Out of Stock
Our Pecks buffalo and blueberry cookies are temporarily unavailable due to a market shortage of buffalo (bison) meat.
Just over a century ago, North American Bison were on the brink of becoming extinct. Thanks to an increase in demand for bison meat, our country’s bison population now stands at half a million.
A few years ago, however, demand for bison began to out-strip supplies, as consumers became increasingly aware of the health benefits of the meat. Bison have slower growth patterns and production cycles than other meats, and should be raised on natural pastures and prairies without the use of growth hormones. These factors protect the unique attributes of the meat but inherently take more time.
While the North American Bison Industry Association is working with ranchers to continue to increase bison stocks, they remain low in relation to overall consumer demand. This is driving prices incredibly high, and causing Pecks to be unaffordable to produce.
Similarly to when we re-formulated our Zeal fish recipe in response to depleted stocks of wild haddock, we have decided to temporarily cease production of our Pecks cookies, to wait out the sky-rocketing prices and do our small part in taking the pressure off existing herd stocks. We hope that as herds do increase and prices for bison meat stabilize, we’ll be able to re-introduce these cookies in the coming months, or re-formulate them with beef, which is more readily available.
We thank you for your patience and we are very sorry for any inconvenience. Click here to view our available treats.
