We’re heartbroken over the immense devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.  We feel it’s our duty to do what we can to make a difference and have formulated the following plan on how we can best help the most pets in need:

  • We’re shipping 3,000 lbs of Keen to Houston in an effort to feed a number of displaced animals.
  • On Monday, September 4th (Labor Day), we’ll be donating 100% of our profits from purchases at thehonestkitchen.com to three Texas rescues:
      • Golden Retriever Acres Senior Sanctuary - The sanctuary suffered severe damage from high flood waters.  Thankfully all humans and animals made it to safety.
      • Tall Tails Rescue - Suffered immense devastation when their outdoor kennels became flooded with dangerous levels of water.  Thanks to the brave actions of Good Samaritans, 100 dogs and 15 cats were rescued.
      • Austin Pets Alive - are housing a large number of pets from the affected region, to help take pressure off shelters in the worst hit areas.
  • In addition, these three rescues will be our Charities of the Month and they’ll receive a portion of our online sales from thehonestkitchen.com for the entire month of September.

If you’re wondering what you can do from afar, here are some additional ways to help:

  • Place a monetary donation to local rescues, or those who’ve taken in pets displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
  • Consider donating to local shelters with an influx of pets. If you’re helping from afar, many rescues publish Amazon wish lists; there is a demand for items like crates, leashes and of course food items.
  • Fostering is needed year-round, but it’s especially helpful in times like these to help reduce the burden on local rescues.

It’s times like these when we're so proud to be part of the pet community.
