Letter from Lucy

Hello & welcome!

I’m so glad you found our web site. We’re a bunch of passionate pet lovers, with a bit of a foodie obsession….

Our roots

I started The Honest Kitchen in my own kitchen, back in 2002. Back then, it was just me and my beloved dog Mosi, mixing up and taste-testing recipes together!

I was trying to address his ear infections and skin problems, and knew that his diet played a role. There was nothing on the market that offered a healthy, whole-food solution that was also easy to prepare and store – so I decided to make it myself, using human-grade, dehydrated ingredients!

When I saw the results in Mosi, I realized that other pets could benefit too – and that’s when it all started evolving into a company!

Our office

We have a brilliant team of about 37 employees, along with fourteen dogs who join us in the office most days – you can often find them lounging on sofas around our lovely brick loft, sprawled on squishy dog beds, having a game of tug-of-war with one of our many battered toys – or pounding the streets outside during a lunch time stroll or having a walking meeting with the team.

We’ve been voted among Outside Magazine’s Best Places to Work for the past five years running. We go on field trips together for all sorts of things, whether it’s to see the Dalai Lama or David Sedaris, or learning about agricultural farming practices at a local organic farm.

Our products

Speaking of things organic, we use as much organic produce as we can, and we never use GMO produce. Our dehydrated pet foods are made from the most pristine, whole food ingredients available. I know that choosing a new pet food can be very overwhelming; there are so many opinions (not to mention quite a bit of misinformation) and so many different choices available.

I think what sets us apart is the fact that we put our hearts and souls into making The Honest Kitchen’s products with the finest quality ingredients, uncompromising standards, and a really common-sense approach to food – just like we would if feeding human children!

Everything we make is human grade, which I see as a real line in the sand regarding the quality, safety and integrity of our products – and peace of mind when it comes to what we’re sending to other people’s Kitchens. We think we’ve got the perfect balance of safety, convenience, quality and tastiness – and ultimately, a finished product that actually speaks for itself…. It’s no wonder our tribe of passionate fans continue to tell their friends and help spread the word when they see the effects in their own beloved dogs!

Our commitment to you & your pets

The Honest Kitchen is a labor of love, based on the foundations of honesty and transparency and we’re so excited to share it with you. Let us know what we can do to help!
