Red, White and Blueberry Independence Treats

These tiny treats are great for training, as well as for taking on summer picnics. They can also be scattered on your lawn, for a fun game of ‘seek’ to keep your pup busy for a few minutes.

4th of July Dog Treats

Ingredients
1 cup instant oats
1 cup boiling water
1 cup ground raw beef
1 small slice ripe water melon
1/2 cup cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
2 free range eggs, beaten
Olive oil
Large baking sheet

What to Do
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Grease the baking pan with the olive oil.
3. Hydrate the oats with the boiling water, in a large glass bowl.
4. Cut the water melon into very small chunks, and transfer to a large bowl. Using a potato masher or fork, gently mash the melon to form a pulp, and stir into the oat mixture.
5. Stir in the cream cheese, blueberries, beef and beaten eggs, so that everything is thoroughly combined.
6. Use a paper towel to spread a layer of olive oil over the baking sheet.
7. Using your hands or a couple of teaspoons, form the mixture into marble-sized balls, and place on the sheet.
8. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes. Turn off the oven but leave the treats inside for up to an hour, to dry out and crisp up.

These treats can be frozen, or stored in the refrigerator for up to four days, in an airtight container.
