The Honest Kitchen is Now a Public Benefit Corporation
Lucy Postins
We’re proud to announce that The Honest Kitchen has recently re-incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation!
This means we’ve elected to modify our corporate legal structure to formally, publicly commit to higher standards of accountability, transparency and purpose.
Conventional corporate structures like C-Corps and S-Corps typically use profit as their main lens for decision-making and have the primary goal of maximizing monetary shareholder value. In contrast, Benefit Corporations make decisions by considering the impact on the environment, communities, customers and employees.
We’re on a mission to help as many pets as possible get on the road to good health through good food and being a Benefit Corporation means really being conscientious about what truly good food is; it goes beyond the bowl by making a positive impact in communities where ingredients are grown; it allows for a commitment to charitable giving, paying more for environmentally sensitive packaging, looking after our people and of course, remaining committed to our customers.
As a Public Benefit Corporation, we’re committed to ensuring that our owners and directors will balance stockholder value with our companies social and environmental performance, and that we’ll be open and transparent on our wider impact. You can read the first edition of our Annual Impact Report here.
At The Honest Kitchen, we’ve focused on putting ‘Pets before Profits’ since 2002, through products made with healthier, wholesome ingredients, gentle production methods, a commitment to giving back and looking after our people. Officially converting to a Public Benefit Corporation means that our vision and values will now live on for generations to come.
