All True Stories
I adopted my husky Atka at ten months old (he's now 11 months) and he was throwing up kibble a lot along with having several digestive issues (i.e. diarrhea, or constipation) from his previous owner. As a person who cares a lot about my dog's nutrition, and about compensating his needs for not only development, but also overall health, I began researching every diet possible; raw, high protein, and even a k9 adaptation of the human keto diet.

nWhat I settled on was doing a breakdown of sled dogs ideal nutrition breakdowns and then began researching the best foods to get that in human food. I was fully prepared to buy vegetables, and meats at the local market to cut up and feed to my dog, aside from its expenses. However, I came across THK from a reddit post on the r/siberianhusky board and fell in love with the business model, the focus on remaining green and environmentally friendly, and the dedication to providing jam-packed nutrition for k9 health. Essentially, I wanted to support this business, and I also wanted to try their food as it seemed like it'd be good for my new best friend.

nThe 'Preference' base mix has seriously done wonders for Atka. No more digestive issues, regulated energy, improved mood and regulated his sleep cycles. I can't speak enough words of positivity. I chose the base mix on the fact that you can add your own protein (as Husky's protein needs change with the seasons). I feed Atka the 'Preference' base mix for all seasons. His feeding plan is fairly well prepared for a sled dogs nutrition, and I recommend doing a similar routine. Due to the fact that it is Autumn in my location, I am using more fish based protein and higher fat content to support their need to grow a thick and healthy coat, with small amounts of fowl (turkey, duck, chicken, or geese); I usually do a piece of cooked salmon, tilapia, or cod, with a tablespoon or two of olive oil daily, and a piece of fowl twice a week. In the winter, it is important to switch to all protein high in Essential Fatty Acids in the Winter to support healthy skin and coat - I use cooked tilapia, cod, and salmon and cut out the chicken or duck. In the Spring, you may want to start adding lighter proteins like more fowl to the diet, with lighter amounts of fish. In the Summer months with their lowered energy levels and calorie requirements, they really dont require as much protein and fat in their diet, so switching to a mixed protein base lower in fish and higher in fowl and some added grassland animal protein (such as bison, or venison) may be a welcomed thing for them. Following this, THK's recommendations for portion size are absolutely 100% accurate and a great reference. Husky's and Malamutes (and Samoyeds to an extent) will not eat more than what they are hungry for, and for my Husky eats a little more than half of the recommended daily serving given by THK; this is not a slight to their portioning at all, and is in fact a testament to how accurate it really is. In all other foods, the portioning was almost always inconsistent, because of the high amount of preservatives, grain, and how he was feeling that day, he could eat twice as much or half as much as the portion recommended; THK has not only been extremely consistent, but also created a routine. 10 am, and 8 pm are feeding times, and with that, I use 1/2 of the recommended daily serving (1/4 per meal) and it's been perfect for Atka.

nI supplement with THK's probiotic goat milk once a week as well.

nOverall, I think that THK is a phenomenal company, and is absolutely necessary to my best friend's nutrition and a primary reason to seeing my dog have better overall health and energy levels.
