Atlas
I have volunteered with different organizations and rescues over the years and had dogs in my previous life. I became a foster human over a year ago. During the pandemic, fostering definitely helped more than ever as like many, we were/are going through so much. Atlas (fka Cisco) was no different, at first anyway. Selfishly after a few weeks, I decided to adopt him over Thanksgiving. (Although, I think I knew I was from the very start). As I've had many doggos as my roomies in the past, at the time I didn't think much different. But of course, now looking back - when I picked him up that day from the rescue to foster, he jumped right into my car without any hesitation. During the second-third weeks of considering of adopting him, I verbally asked him out loud what he thought and he kissed me. Not gonna lie, one big factor that made me even consider was the fact he was already housebroken and trained at around 2.5 years old. He even knows tricks! Most of the fosters I had were around this age and nowhere near his temperament. At this adolescent age, it's expected for dogs to still be hyper on some level. More importantly though, even though it's clear that he was in a previous home, his history will forever be a mystery. He came with one front dead leg, as the paw was previously injured but never taken care of so it affected the entire leg. So he was already an unofficial tripod and is now an official tripod as he had it amputated a month or so after I got him. Like many dogs, he is forever brave and resilient despite of whatever he went through in his previous life. He is still as fast when he runs like a 4-legged doggo. He is sweet, stoic and eager to please. He is a bit timid with some men, but warms up quickly. He wants to play with every doggo. Ball is life over treats and loves belly rubs all day everyday. He will never know, but he is my sunshine and continues to save my life, especially during these times in our new norm. Dogs will forever be better than humans. Also, fun fact - I did a DNA test and he is just about every pittie/bully and terrier breed you can think of plus one odd breed - Chow Chow ... still can't get over it!
