Butter
Butter was diagnosed with a single extrahepatic portosystemic shunt when she was 9 months old. Her liver condition requires her to be on a special diet as we were not intending to have her undergo surgery due to the risks involved. The special diet consists of A LOT of vegetables and a small portion of meat. She experienced hepatic encephalopathy once when we tried to switch her diet. This is how much her diet plays a part in maintaining her liver health. After feeding her grocery store-bought vegetables and meats, vegetables came out to be a lot more expensive than meat given the amount she eats in one setting to meet her calorie goals. It is also a hassle to prepare her vegetables, we take around 15 minutes every meal to clean, cut and blend her vegetables. There was once we had to go on a trip, and we were in a dilemma on what we should do for her diet. Thats when I found Honest Kitchen Base Mix! Honest Kitchen was quick to provide the full nutritional analysis via email so I can attempt to balance her diet on my own and decide how much meat to feed. It was such a breeze preparing her meal. While I do not feed Honest Kitchen on a daily basis usually only fed on trips or when I am simply too tired to function, I would recommend Honest Kitchen for its clean ingredients and that they have a vegetarian option for dogs with special dietary needs.
