Cali

Labrador Retriever — Age 11

This is my sweet Cali. I adopted her when she was almost 6, back then her name was Sally. I went into the shelter to look at her kennelmate, an older chocolate lab. After taking her out to the park i decided a second story apartment with 4 college girls wouldn't be the best home for her. That's when the kennel attendant mentioned Sally. A much smaller, much less labby looking black lab. I was hesitant. While i was looking at the other lab, i really envisioned myself adopting a long-haired giant mutt. But when the woman said her time was next to be euthanized and hadn't had any interest since she was surrendered, i quickly filled out the foster paperwork. I didn't know if i wanted to keep her but i felt good about getting her out of there and making space for another dog at the crowded, overrun, high-kill shelter. When they brought her out to me she was no longer shy, she was so excited her entire body was wiggling. In the past 5 years we've fostered lots of dogs, adopted a brother, gained another dog brother, a human dad, graduated college, moved 3 different states, have gone on countless hikes, walks, adventures, trips to the beach, car rides, road trips, ice cream dates, and everything in between. I can confidently say cali rescued me.
