Dex

Scottish Terrier — Age 1

In our house we eat almost no processed food (both have previously cooked in kitchens and scratch made food is a huge part of our daily life), and when we decided to get a puppy it just didn't feel right to be feeding him something I don't really believe in myself after getting countless purina type recommendations. I started doing research and wanted to do a blend of homemade food and some sort of clusters/kibble to give him variety in texture and nutrients. So I make half of his food homemade, and then we do half of the Honest Kitchen Beef Clusters, which until recently I'd been smashing up the larger chunks with a mallet (since he's a puppy and a smaller breed) until they just came out with both puppy and small breed kibble and cannot wait to get that in so he can give it a try and put my mallet away :) I also can't wait until they expand these lines to have other meats like beef since that is what we currently feed him and then my homemade food is made with turkey so he has variety. I don't think any dog is as happy for mealtimes as Dex and we even use the clusters as treats sometimes for him when he goes potty outside or deserves a reward. I even convinced my vet that she needed to broaden her horizons on recommendations because our first puppy visit she was concerned that I'd be feeding him a partially homemade diet and then dog food she didn't know of and insisted that beefmeal, chickenmeal etc. are totally fine. The next couple times she saw him she'd ask if I'd switched and I would happily tell her no, still doing the homemade food and honest kitchen and by the last puppy visit she could not stop raving about how great his coat looks and how much energy he has and how he's growing so well, so she said she'd have to do some more research and look into the Honest Kitchen herself! I told her, that Dex probably has a more balanced, nutritious, delicious diet than about 80% of America (humans included), and that although you guys are a newer Pet Food company, that you offer awesome products that are both delicious for my puppy, keeps him growing strong, and makes me happy to know I'm feeding him REAL food and not fillers and meals.
