Dory

Labrador Retriever — Age 7

We refer to Dory as one of the twins - she was born just six days after our youngest daughter. When we brought her home at 8 weeks, I had a two year old, a newborn, and a puppy. It seemed like a recipe for disaster, but she is, quite honestly, the sweetest and best dog I have ever known. But around age 3, Dory was getting ear infections nearly every month, and scratching incessantly. Eventually, her paws started getting open sores that were hard to get healed up. I suspected allergies, and had a plan with one of the vets at our local practice to get her tested. Unfortunately, they are a multi-vet practice, and when my husband took her to the appointment where she was supposed to get her testing done, a different vet convinced my husband to buy a very expensive bag of prescription dog food, which we were to try for a few months to see if it helped. Thankfully, the vet who treats our horses also does small animals, and when we asked her to see Dory for a third opinion, she came to the same conclusions I had about potential allergies and got the testing done for us. The lab confirmed that Dory has the most bizarre set of both environmental and food allergies (she would have been allergic to SEVERAL ingredients in the prescription food), so we started her on allergy serum and a limited ingredient diet that matched up with what little she wasn't allergic to. Fast forward a couple years, and she started to get sores on her feet again. Around the same time, the limited ingredient food brand she was eating at the time was repeatedly named as one that could cause sudden heart issues. I started looking into other options, and after realizing delivered raw options were way out of my budget, and doing the raw diet all on my own too overwhelming, I found Honest Kitchen. We found two options for the Limited Ingredient foods that could work for Dory, and decided to give it a shot by combining the Limited Ingredient Dehydrated food with raw meat here and there. I balked at the price at first, but in the last year, Dory has shown so many improvements that even our vet can't believe it. I wish I had before pictures. We have taken her off of her allergy serum. Her feet look the best they have ever looked. Her coat is shiny and sleek even if she hasn't had a bath in weeks, and best of all, her energy and mood have come back and we see the happy dog we hadn't seen since her puppy days. We are so grateful to Honest Kitchen for giving us our happy, healthy girl back.
