Gertrude

I got Gertrude from friends who could no longer keep her in January, 2018. She weighed 16 pounds, had a rash all over her belly and was constantly digging at her ears. I changed her diet (she was on pedigree) to a lamb and rice formula (not your brand); her rash started to clear up and she started to lose weight. After eating she would still dig at her ears until they sometimes bled. I spoke with the previous owners who stated that this was how she had always been no matter what they fed her.

I took her to the vet, they said she had food allergies and recommended a flavor of Iams dog food, it did not help. I started trying to find a dog food that worked for her. I went through at least 10 to 15 different brands and nothing worked. On some she would show some signs of improvement: her skin would start to clear up and/or she would not scratch her ears as badly after eating, but nothing seemed to be completely irritant free for her. On one of the brands of foods that had great natural ingredients she began having urinary problems. The vet told me she had developed bladder stones probably because of the ingredients in the dog food and recommended another flavor of Iams: she was completely miserable on it. I then found another very expensive natural limited ingredient dog food designed for urinary tract health: the bladder stones went away and her skin and ears got much better but did not completely clear up. I thought a mild rash on her belly only and itchy ears after eating were things she would have to live with.

A friend kept telling me to give Honest Kitchen a try. I bought three sample cups (I have two other dogs) and let them try it out. They all LOVED it. Based on their response to the food I decided that even if Gertrude could not have it I was switching the other two dogs to it. I bought a box of the grain free chicken, by the time the two pound box was gone Gertrude was scratching her ears again after eating. I decided to try the Whole Grain Turkey Recipe, within a week Gertrude was no longer scratching and her belly rash had completely cleared up. This is the first food ever to my knowledge that she has been completely rash free. All three of my dogs love your food. They all get the Duck and Cherry Recipe treats.

There has been a noticeable reduction in shedding by all three dogs. Their coats are shinier, their eyes are brighter and they are happy. Gertrude is the youngest of my three, the oldest is 14, they play more and have more energy on this dog food. I am planning on trying other flavors, I may have to leave Gertrude on the Whole Grain Turkey Recipe but I believe I can switch the others around for variety. I am beyond happy with your brand, so are my fur babies. Oh yes, Gert now weighs nine pounds and due to her increase in activity eats almost twice as much of this food then the lamb and rice I had her on. Thank you very much
