Allow me to introduce my children: Henry is 9 years old and weighs 15 lbs. I rescued him in 2013 and he has been my rock and my everything. Last June he was diagnosed with Addison's disease. This disease causes him to be thirsty and to drink a lot more and usual. We finally got his dosage right with his meds and his injections. It makes me sad that I can see when he is due for his injection. He gets more clingy (not a bad thing ever) and he shivers or shakes more frequently. Henry and I are so bonded we have our own language and if he could speak english he would be super sassy! Josi is 8 years old and weighs 9 lbs. I adopted her from a private owner in 2017. They had to let them go and I stumbled on the ad they had posted. I had wanted a female for Henry to pal around with. Josi is the healthiest of the three. She has almost all her teeth and she doesn't play with toys of any kind. She also is not much a talker but as of late when we get in the car to go to the park she gets a little vocal. ARE WE THERE YET?? This past March, on almost the same day COVID ended the world she lost 2 of her toes. I have no clue what happened but she had been out in the backyard and I have a chain link fence and I truly believe someone was walking by my fence with their dog and they both went at the fence and the other dog caught her foot. When I took her in for surgery I walked the fence line to see if I could see where it happened but there was no evidence of anything. She is so spunky and feisty and yes still mostly quiet she wasn't going to let her foot keep her down. She was hopping around two days later. And Baxter who is 8 years old too and he actually came with Josi. He weighs right around 10 lbs. I'm glad I got him too cuz as it turns out Henry and Josi hate each other. If they were human Henry would be pulling her hair and she would be kicking him in the shins! I often have to break them up. Baxter is my little energizer bunny. From the moment he gets up in the morning until we go to bed at night he is going, going, going! He loves to fetch and he is a LOVE SUCKER! He can never get enough attention. Unfortunately, he came to me with a collapsed trachea. I didn't find this out until December of 2017. He got super sick and had a bloated tummy and wasn't able to pass gas so to speak and that cost me a pretty penny. The vet had Xrayed him and showed me what the air looked like in his tummy and then she showed me his collapsed trachea. That explained SO MUCH. When we go out for a walk he sounds like a little pig snorting. People in passing will make that comment to me all the time. With his collapsed trachea he has congestion in his nose and chest so much so he coughs at night and it sounds like he's trying to cough up his lungs. The best medicine I have for him is a controlled narcotic! True story I promise. He also has an overactive thyroid so he's on medication for that too. Ok. I have 3 Pomeranians. The one I've had the longest, Henry, I rescued. I can't even remember what food he came with but it didn't last. So whatever I was eating, and I'm single, is generally protein based so I would share. I tried slowly putting him back on dog food. Nope. He wasn't gonna do that. Then I adopted 2 more and they came with the real crappy grocery store STINKY dog food. I donated that to a doggy daycare. Because Henry was on mostly human food I added Josi and Baxter to it as well. AND THEN a veterinarian told me they are probably missing out of a lot of vitamins and nutrients they need and humans do not. He recommended a couple of online sites and I checked them out online and I about fainted! I do NOT have that kind of money. My dogs are my children and my life but even if I had a human child who thought they could have the sugary cereal no way was I going to spend that amount of money on them. Honest Kitchen wasn't on the list but in researching the others I ended up here. I was super excited but was unsure about the dehydrated food and somehow I ended up with the clusters. When I first got them I thought yeah NO WAY they're going to eat this. The pieces are too big for their mouths. Henry is so spoiled he would probably look at me and say WHAT THE H is this? So I put it in my ninja and broke it down a little bit. They all surprised me by chowing down on it! Yay! I got to the point where I would soften it with chicken broth too. But I had thought I was getting dehydrated food and I don't know how I ordered this. So I went back and looked and I had goofed! Dummy me. So I bought the samples that come in single serving cups, which is totally awesome! I bought the grain free and grain-ful. They loved the grain free but not the grain-ful. My female, Josi, is my picky eater. I had thought she liked the chicken the best but she refused it when I bought a 2 lb box. So then I thought oh it was the Turkey she liked. Nope. So beef it was then. She likes that one the best but she has to think about it first. I love that I found Honest Kitchen and that my kids like it and they are no longer eating human food! BEST DISCOVERY EVER!! I love each of them so much. It makes a difference to me and to them that they have healthy food options. I truly believe the other dog food brands that use fillers and just junk should be outlawed! Also, I wish they would put the breakdown on the food labels like the FDA makes it for humans. I'm no good a math and so trying to figure out how many calories my kids are getting is just impossible. I trust Honest Kitchen and I don't feel like I have to count calories.
