Lexi

German Shepherd — Age 1

This is Lexis story and how she has been saved by Honest Kitchen. Lexi came to us at 12-weeks of age as a pure-bred German Shepherd. She was on raw diet which led me to the pursuit of finding a complete and balanced raw diet. After countless trials of prey model foods, frozen patties and pre-made frozen raw foods I found few brands that I thought were appropriate for Lexi. Lexi did well for the next 8 months on frozen raw food. However, she stopped eating gradually. I was told to simply take away her untouched meal and try again at the next scheduled meal time. Dogs won't starve themselves to death, I was told. Over a month period, Lexi lost 6 pounds. Out of desperation, I started introducing dry food to her diet, the most expensive and highest rated brands of dry food, I might add. The good news was that she would eat, the bad news was that she would stop eating after a day or two. To make the matter worse, she starting having diarrhea and vomiting. Her stomach would be making high pitched noises in the morning. This culminated to the development of severe dehydration needing fluid replacement at the animal ER.

nShe was revived over the next few weeks on boiled chicken beast, rice and yogurt. I did not know where to go from there. Everybody had a different recommendation: high protein diet, high carbohydrate diet, low fat diet, adding digestive enzymes, canned food, dense dry food, back to raw food. I tried them all, which would trigger Lexis GI upset again after a day or two, again and again--even the previously tolerated raw diet. Yes, I changed things very SLOWLY.

nFinally, I was introduced to HK base mix. I could add my protein of choice (chicken at this point) to the base and end up with a complete meal. Lexi did fantastic on this combination. She started gaining weight and looked forward to eating each meal. After two months, I reluctantly tried other HK products including Chicken, Beef, Fish and Turkey, all with excellent results. It has been three months of feeding HK and Lexi continues to do great. She has not had any GI upset, diarrhea, retching or vomiting. No skin issues or allergies eitherI have only tried grain-free products. Her most favorite food is Zeal and the least favorite is Embark. I

n had been told by one so-called expert in dog nutrition that HK is too high in carbohydrates and biologically inappropriate! I strongly recommend KH to anybody. I am so pleased to have come across this product and am not planning on changing Lexis diet anytime soon!
