Marx

Schnauzer — Age 13

I had the most amazing experience with The Honest Kitchen and I will never buy another brand of dog food ever.

I started Marx on The Honest Kitchen food (grain free, dehydrated) about five years ago. Marx had survived cancer and I had recently changed my diet and was religious about reading labels. I read Marx's food label and couldn't believe that I fed him something that I would never dream of eating myself. So I did some research and came across The Honest Kitchen, and it sounded exactly like what I was looking for - real food. Human grade food. Food I would eat. Marx loved it. He's a schnauzer, so it meant 2x daily beard baths for the rest of his life, but this was something both he and I were willing to endure. When it starts to be meal time, he goes and waits by his box of food. He knows. He loves it. He's never been like that about food.

About two years ago, Marx got really sick - he started throwing up his meals - I took him to the emergency clinic and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. After about a week of this, and constantly taking him to the vet, I called The Honest Kitchen and asked them if it was possible that there was something wrong with his food. They kindly explained to me that each of their lots is tested and retained in case something happens, so they asked for the lot number and looked it up to see if anyone had reported anything. I was amazed even that they gave me the time of day - I was distraught. The person on the phone talked to me for about thirty minutes about Marx and the issues he'd been having. She asked me if I had been varying his food (I hadn't). She suggested that I vary his food as he may have built up an intolerance to one of the ingredients. They sent me a bunch of different boxes of food for Marx to try and suggested a dietary supplement. They sent this to me for free. What? And Marx got better.

I keep a container of the digestive supplement on hand, just in case. I constantly vary his food and have learned that Marx doesn't really care for duck, even though it sounds good to me. The Honest Kitchen treated Marx and I so kindly - like they actually cared that Marx wasn't feeling well and that my distress was troubling. I will never forget this - none of it was expected - all of it was appreciated. I just ordered Marx his first box of limited ingredient chicken - the first chicken that I've given him in two years - and he's really enjoyed it. Next up: alternating fish (his favorite) and turkey. I'm really grateful for all the great food choices The Honest Kitchen provides. Marx is happy and healthy - and still here - and I'm happy.
