Muira

Muira /

In 2007 I was backpacking and climbing all over the United States. One of my favorite places to climb is in the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky. Hiking to one of our favorite places to climb, we stumbled across a sick, barely moving dog with very little fur. She had lots of ticks, a terrible smell, and was terrified of humans. As she was backpacked out, it was clear that nobody was in a position to keep her, but simply get her help and nutrition. Most people didnt think she was going to make it with how terrible her condition was. After a vet visit and spending a few days with her, there I fell in love. I named her Muira as she was found in a place called Muir Valley. Flashed forward 14 years, and she has never left my side. She moved all over the country with me, and 9 years ago we settled in Oregon. Muira has changed the way I look at life, animals and the importance of unconditional love. As she is aging at a faster rate than I am, I cant bare to leave her home. Instead we make her comfortable beds in our camper, backpacks for hikes or a cart we wheel her around in! One day I hope to write a book about the Adventures of Muira, the Wonder Dog!
