Nalu
I wrote a very long story of our dog food journey, and at the end decided it was too long and not terribly interesting, so instead, here's the cliff notes:
1. 80 lb. pointer/lab mix develops chronic digestive issues (loose stools covered in mucus) and anal gland issues after years of premium kibble diet.
2. Several months later, food after food, and LOTS of Metronidazole/Tylan powder, decide to go home-cooked. Great results! But, very expensive and lots of time in the kitchen for a single dad.
3. Nearly a year later, decide to look for alternatives to save time and expense of home-cooked.
4. Tried The Honest Kitchen, and results were even better than the home cooked. What took me so long to try this?? Zeal was especially good for firm poops. No mucus, and no more anal gland expression, to the dog's delight.
5. Been on The Honest Kitchen for more than a year, and have never had a recurrence of the previous digestion issues. For big dogs, it costs a LOT more than kibble, but is still more affordable than home cooked. Plus, I am saving 25 - 30 hours of kitchen time a month.
6. Recently went to the vet for our annual check up, and Nalu has lost 15 pounds!!! I didn't think he had that much to lose, but he has a really great lean and muscular physique now compared to his pudgy waistline a year ago. Our new vet (we moved during the year) was really impressed with the dog's health, telling me he is the healthiest six year old he's ever seen.
In conclusion, if your dog is suffering from digestive issues, I highly recommend you try THK food. Or, if you just want a healthy and happy pup, try their food out and feel great about what you are feeding your canine companion.
