All True Stories
Nixie was the runt of a rescue litter of goldens from eastern Washington. She was 8 weeks old when we brought her home. She was a very happy pup, but it soon became apparent that something was wrong. She stood in the backyard and watched my border collies play - but she didn't run and play with them. Back to the vet and series of tests - blood, liver, kidneys. Much scratching of heads. They all wrestled on the floor together. They played tug. But she didn't run. And then one day she came in from the backyard and collapsed on the floor. I realized we had been looking in all the wrong places. It was a structural problem! Off for hip xrays - and sure enough, she had bilateral severe hip dysplasia.

nSurgeon consults - many. To do one hip or both. To replace? TPLO? What would be the best for her long term - she was a baby dog! While all this was going on, my vet went to Canada to study with a holistic vet. She came back and called me up: Amazing stuff being done in Canada with raw diet and acupuncture! Maybe we should try that before deciding on surgery?
n
nAcupuncture started. HK started. Two weeks: she was running with the pack and hasn't stopped since. Turns out her balls are completely outside of the sockets. So no bone on bone rubbing or pain. As long as she eats healthy and is well exercised and stays lean - she's good to go and has never looked back.
n
nThanks HK - you saved the baby dog months of recovery. Saved us thousands of dollars. And we have a healthy and happy golden, now 7.5 years old and still running strong with the border collies.
