Nola
We adopted Nola through a rescue in April 2018. Her mother and litter mates were saved off the streets in Alabama. Nola came to use under weight and showing signs of malnutrition and was absolutely terrified of people and other dogs barking. We noticed early on that Nola had little interest in food. We first assumed what we bought just wasn't for her or that it was her anxiety. We switched brands, proteins, and began using can food to entice her. We also started prozac and worked with a behaviorist. We also noticed that Nola, no matter what was always itching and having rashes. After several months, we opted to get her a blood allergy test. We found out that Nola was allergic to pork, turkey, milk, eggs, and soy. We immediately began to switch her kibble and found that eggs were extremely common is many foods. As a dog Mom, I wanted to make up for all that she encountered in her life and was also picky about what brands I would feed her due to their sourcing. We tried dozens of premium foods and to no avail - Nola was not interested. Next, we started putting an entire can of wet food mixed with her kibble to eat each day but that too she often turned her nose up at. After almost 4 years of trying new things and many tears of frustration, I decided to look into something different - The Honest Kitchens Dehydrated Food. I purchased a small box after reading all of the great reviews. But didn't want to get my hopes up as I knew Nola actually eating would be the real test. I am so thankful that I did. It has been an absolute game changer. Nola comes in willingly for each of her feedings now! Not only does she come willingly but she even eats ALL of the food in her bowl! We have had such great success with the chicken flavor that I am going to be purchasing the Grain Free Beef flavor to provide her some variety. I am hoping that with continued use and the high quality ingredients we also see an improvement in her allergies. I am extremely grateful to the honest kitchen for thinking outside of the box in the food you create that even picky eaters like Nola can enjoy!
