Pappy van Winkle, Freddie, Sweetie

Pappy van Winkle, Freddie, Sweetie /

We adopted Pappy van Winkle, a Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, through a rescue organization in December 2018. He was 1.5 years old and had been used to breed in a horrible puppy-mill. He had been kept in a small cage and had damage to his feet from standing on wire his whole life. Pappy didn't know how to run, he was amazed at how his legs worked. Of course he is beautiful, this is why they kept him and tried to breed him, but of course Pappy was so scared and malnourished he was afraid to breed. The only name he would answer to was puppy, so we named him Pappy, as he now has a home in Kentucky bourbon country. He was under weight and scared, no leash skills, not house broken. He was a picky eater, afraid of everything. He only knew how to drink water from a rabbit feeder, we had to teach him to drink from a dog bowl. We started buying Honest Kitchen products for Pappy. He loves the food TOO MUCH. We've always left some kibble out for our dogs and allowed them to self manage their weight. I generally use treats to train. Honest Kitchen Food and Treats are delicious! says Pappy. Pappy has gained too much weight so now we are cutting back his portions. This is difficult because we have now rescued two more Cavaliers from puppy-mills and one needs to gain a little weight. No one can believe Pappy was a scared abused dog, he is now a healthy, happy, house broken boy who loves to walk on a leash! He proudly prances with his white flag tail wagging high! Pappy loves his new pack and is actually the alpha male, he has come so far over the past 2.5 years. Thank you for providing such wonderful food, only problem is that it may be a little too tasty!
