Riley

German Shepherd — Age 1

When we got Riley, she was 25 lbs underweight, had skin and coat issues and mobility concerns. Vet check revealed worms, poor muscle tone in her hind quarters probably from lack of exercise and excessive crating. A hot spot on her leg had become infected and required surgery to remove dead tissue. Her coat and skin was dry and she was experiencing hair loss. Riley was only 7 months old. She was a mess, to put it mildly. As with humans, I knew diet was key to fixing a lot of these issues. A client had given me a box of The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Grain Free Veggie, Nut and Seed Base Mix, so I switched her over to this, adding my own meat, switching daily from chicken to turkey to beef and veal. It took surgery to fix the leg issue, worm meds to get rid of the parasites and The Honest Kitchen diet to get her back on track. Riley is now two years old. Her last visit to the vet, she told me Riley had the best skin and coat of all the dogs that attended the practice. She now weighs 100lbs, she is a big German Shepherd Dog for a female. No, shes not overweight, just big. Her coat is plush, shiny and soft. Her muscle tone in excellent in her hind quarters, thanks to plenty of exercise and good food. We use a host of The Honest Kitchen products. Riley loves the fish skins for a snack, enjoys the goats milk over homemade granola and we use a wide variety of products, the dehydrated meals. I am a certified pet food nutritional specialist and can tell you that the vast majority of commercial pet food is sub par. Too much grain, low quality protein, chemical additives, over processed and loaded with vitamin premixes from China. Not with The Honest Kitchen. As a side note, I have had some folks tell me their dog is finicky and dont like The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated. If they are accustomed to traditional kibble, then your dog is hooked on the sugars and flavor enhancers they use. It will take a while to transition them over. Dont give up. The end result is so worth it.
