Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea /

When Sweet Pea came to live with us she was 9 yrs old, overweight and had a bunch of health issues. She was previously on a diet of a popular commercial dog food with lots of rawhide treats. Her appetite was erratic, sometimes appearing starved but often refusing her food for a couple of days at a time, eating only the treats she was offered. Our vet diagnosed her with copper storage liver disease and we were advised to make drastic dietary changes or loose her within months. For the next year I fed her home cooked meats mixed with Preference dehydrated base food and her health improved dramatically. Her energy returned, her lab results were close to normal, her coat became thick and lush, she played with our other dogs and took long walks, and she obviously loved her new food, never once turning away from a meal. Because I was feeding our other dogs the same good stuff Sweet Pea was eating the burden of preparation soon became overwhelming. With the vet's blessing we switched them to The Honest Kitchen's grain free chicken, turkey, and beef recipes, rotating the selection for best nutritional advantage. All our dogs have enjoyed excellent health and vitality on this diet. Sweet Pea finally passed away at the age of 14 yrs and 9 months. I credit a healthy, clean diet and lots of love for the extra years she enjoyed with us. We still have two dogs and still feed The Honest Kitchen, which I now receive via recurring shipment delivered to my door. During this pandemic it's really nice to not worry about going out to buy dog food or having to deal with local availability issues that occur when living in a small town in rural Vermont. Thank you Honest Kitchen for making such good stuff for our fur babies!
