We moved to a new home and added a dog door with a quarter-acre backyard. Peanut was alone so we went to the humane society and there was Toby. They said you will need to read his jacket (rap sheet) before taking him. Wow we thought, he scares kids by growling during play, tears up everything, and was returned 4 times. We must love a challenge, we took him and he was just as they said, at the end of the first week the neighbor wanted him. After one night he was back and the neighbor had one less shoe. For a time I was ready to take him back but I really liked him so we kept working with him. We dog-proofed the house! We would still come home from work and find pillows, blankets, underwear whatever he could drag out the dog door on the lawn. We worked with him and over time he began to trust he was ours and he had a home. Years have passed he doesn't tear up stuff or take things outside. He is the most loving dog to us and everyone he meets. He still growls when he plays but he is a wonderful family member. Peanut didn't like me at first but she has come arround. Jack the Corgie Bluehealer mix is very skittish with a huge amount of energy. He was dumped in the hills and couldn't be adopted for nearly 2 months and his ribs were still visible when we got him. Not he is so happy and not as skittish and seems to love his place in our home.
