Are your ingredients grown or raised using chemical pesticides and herbicides? I am looking for an organic cat food.: Hi Lake, Thank you for reaching out. At The Honest Kitchen, we have a long-term goal of working toward 100% organic ingredients in the future. We're currently moving toward this goal one ingredient at a time, as availability and resources allow. Our raw ingredients suppliers use very minimal pesticides and only when deemed necessary to protect a crop against pests. If pesticides are used, the produce is tested for residues following normal food standards for humans, so the celery, for example, could not contain any more residue than a heart of celery being sold in a US supermarket. We’re actively working to transition as many ingredients as possible to all organic, too. Where do you store this?: Hi Jay, Our dehydrated foods can be stored in their original packaging and, ideally, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. A lower pantry or kitchen cupboard works well. Our BPA-free bags contain a zip closure, which will help to keep the food fresh, although many customers simply roll down the top of the bag like breakfast cereal packaging, which is fine as well! We don't recommend storing the dry food in the refrigerator because this exposes it to moisture. If you choose to place the dry food in the fridge or freezer, it must remain there for the duration of its use. Our foods have a shelf life of 12 months, depending on ambient temperatures and humidity. We guarantee our foods for 12 months from the date of manufacturing printed on the top of the box. The Best Buy date reflects this 12-month shelf life. If you decide to transfer the food to your own food-grade storage container, we recommend that you save the MFG date, LOT#, and Best Buy date for your records. Also, make sure that a container you choose is clean and thoroughly dried before you place your new food into it.
