When my husband and I went to pick Frenchie up from the shelter in August 2017,we were not prepared for the sight of the horribly sick little old dog that was brought out to us. We knew that Frenchie was very old and had some mobility and vision issues, but the shelter had not mentioned that she was suffering from horrific skin issues as well. We had originally only planned to be her temporary fosters through the rescue Newman Nation: Senior Pets United, but it quickly became evident that she would need a lot more care than originally anticipated. Thanks to Newman Nation and a wonderful team of vets, Frenchie's most obvious physical ailments (ear infections, eye infections, skin infections, mange, wounds, hair loss, arthritis) were addressed and she began to heal. However, we soon realized that she had more issues going on internally. Almost every day Frenchie was vomiting and having bloody loose stools, and she was not very interested in eating. She was diagnosed as having ulcers and shortly after that had an ultrasound that diagnosed her with inflammatory bowel disease. The vet recommended a specialized prescription diet, but we were not keen on the list of ingredients. We tried a number of different foods with poor results before the director of Newman Nation suggested trying The Honest Kitchen! Almost immediately after receiving our first order, we knew we might have found the answer to our worries. We tried out the Preference fruit and veggie base mix and combined it with fresh cooked meats. Frenchie suddenly turned into a voracious eater! She went from being picky and sometimes not eating hardly at all for days to now licking her bowl clean at every meal! We also added in THK Pro Bloom Goats Milk, which she (and all the rest of our dogs) loved. The combination of these diet changes (along with the continued care of her vets) completely turned Frenchie's life around. She has been thriving ever since and had no further diet-related problems. She seems happier, gained some much needed weight, and looks forward to every meal time. She also is completely obsessed with The Honest Kitchen Smalls fish skin chews, which we are also so glad to have found because we can give her these delicious treats without worrying about it upsetting her stomach and they have the added benefit of improving her dental hygiene. All of our other senior dogs now eat The Honest Kitchen as well and are thriving. We are so glad that it was suggested to us!
