My almost 10-month old Entlebucher Mountain Dog, Luna, became very sick after eating highly rated, grain-free kibble foods for her entire life after momma’s milk. With every kibble we tried, Luna had loose stools. I was barely able to pick up her firmest stools in the morning, and by bedtime, they were so loose they were impossible to pick up. She had a great appetite and plenty of energy and in every other way was the picture of health, so I didn’t worry about her loose stool and attributed it to her high energy and zest for life. Suddenly, Luna’s loose-stool pattern changed for the worst. She started refusing some of her meals (alarming for an Entlebucher) and developed severe colitis and sometimes vomited. After many expensive and totally ineffective treatments recommended by our vet, I was determined to learn everything I could about what might be causing her problem. One of the most enlightening and helpful resources was Ann N. Martin’s book [italics start]Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food[italics end]. Reading this book led me to Honest Kitchen and I decided to give their foods a try. Now, Luna’s main food is Honest Kitchen’s Thrive. I noticed right away how fresh and clean this food smells, and to this day, I still notice how wonderful it smells. The change in Luna’s stools was immediate—after the very first meal with only 20% of it Thrive (we transitioned to it from the last kibble I fed her over a 10-day period), she had a normal, healthy stool that I could actually pick up. No more colitis, no more vomiting. And Luna still has her high energy and even more zest for life. Thank you, Honest Kitchen!
