King HenryLabrador Retriever — Age 4
Henry has been eating Honest Kitchen all his life. Despite great food, he does suffer from seasonal allergies to tree pollen. Every Spring he gets the sneezes, followed by the itches, which leads to hair loss. The hair loss then leads to occasional hot spots and that terrible "dog smell" that I can only describe as Frito's. I always rotate his proteins and he never has a problem with grain - unless its allergy season. I have found that sticking to grain free options during the high pollen season dramatically reduces his irritation and therefore his smell. His histamine response gets so high that his body can't defend itself against the yeast that is always present on a dogs body - hence the smell and ear issues. Going grain free has just about completely stopped this for him. I have also found cooling proteins and other ingredients to be extremely helpful during his allergy season. Zeal has been his allergy season must have food!
