More Force, please!

Phil was a rambunctious wheaten terrier puppy from Des Moines, Iowa. He was unusually adventurous as he was the only puppy in his litter who wasn’t afraid of thunderstorms or the washing machine! In 2010, we drove from the Chicagoland area to pick him up and bring him back to Illinois. Like most puppies, Phil enjoyed chasing his stuffed duck, nibbling on our ears, stealing underwear, and destroying toilet paper.

A few months after getting him home, we noticed that Phil began to avoid his “puppy kibble” which the breeder had fed him and our veterinarian recommended. We were told that he was just a finicky eater and were encouraged to stick with the same kibble.

Throughout his first year with us, he ended up at the vet almost once a month. It was always the same story, diarrhea, vomiting, and then a strict diet of chicken and rice to straighten him out. He’d get back on track for a few weeks and then be back in to the vet. They told us that he might have a protein wasting disease or some sort of other genetic defect and that further testing and even surgery might be required someday.

Not knowing what to do, we consulted our “doggie daycare” provider to see if she had ever heard of such a situation. That is when she introduced us to the Honest Kitchen line of dog foods. She thought that Phil might have a gluten allergy and suggested that we put him on Force. By this point, we were very skeptical that simply changing his food could alleviate all of the medical problems he supposedly had, but we tried anyway.

Since that day, Phil has not been sick, has not had diarrhea, and has been given a clean bill of health by the vet. He empties his bowl for each and every meal, and is now a happy and healthy 3-year-old dog.

Thanks to the Honest Kitchen, he’s back to stealing underwear and chasing his duck!
