Happy Dogs & Healthier Tummies

"Since switching to The Honest Kitchen, my dogs have done really well on it. They love the food, seem to tolerate it much better, and we’ve had no more stomach issues or runny poops since making the change. It feels like a much healthier option overall, and it’s been working great for both of them!"

Love, But

"I love this food. But the ingredients changed. Peas and salt are at the top. Too much salt! Will have to find something else."

Erin (4/5)

Good flavor not sure about value

"My dogs really like the food but I'm not sure if it's because they are older, but they have a hard time getting it out of the bowl because of the texture. Also, we are going through it pretty quickly. It doesn't seem to expand like I thought it would. My "40" 1bs of Honest is going faster than the 271b Hills Science dry that I was trying to find a cheaper option from."

Elizabeth P. (3/5)

Dogs love it!

"My dogs love the turkey dehydrated food. I switched to grain free because they were having some digestion issues and all is goo now."

Michelle C. (5/5)

Picky Eater

"My schnauzer is not very food motivated and often is picky but he loves the beef and turkey grain free food"

Suzanna F. (5/5)

Great food

"The grain free food works best for our dogs. We have been using it for almost a year and are happy with it."

Q&A

Can this be used for a ketogenic diet?
Thank you for your question. No, our Wholemade Grain Free Turkey recipe is not formulated as a ketogenic diet. Ketogenic diets for pets are highly specialized, very high in fat, and very low in carbohydrates, and must be prescribed and monitored by a veterinarian for specific medical conditions. Our recipe is a balanced, commercial diet. While it is grain-free, it still contains carbohydrates from ingredients like potatoes and peas, which provide necessary energy and nutrients. The fat content, while present, is not at the level required for a therapeutic ketogenic state. We strongly recommend **consulting with your veterinarian** before starting any specialized diet. They can determine if a ketogenic diet is appropriate for your pet's health needs and, if so, guide you to a properly formulated therapeutic food. All the best, Kris
Hello, I just purchased a 10lb box of this dehydrated grain free Turkey. And now that I am looking at it again I am noticing that the nutrient profile has 9.6% fiber... this is considerably higher fiber than I have seen in any other food, which seems like across the board is typically between 3-6%. Is there a reason for this recipe to be so high in fiber? My dogs have had great stools on other foods with much less fiber, so my concern is that this might be too much for them. Generally speaking, they do not have sensitive stomachs and I routinely feed them different foods and mixes of foods including some dog appropriate human leftovers from home, etc. Appreciate any feedback on the reasons behind why such fiber in this recipe. Thank you!
Hi Autumn, We have recipes with different nutrient values for different needs just like this recipe it is high in fiber we actually have a few Here are the links to our high fiber recipes: https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-grain-free-beef-dog-food 7% fiber https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-grain-free-turkey-dog-food 9.6% fiber https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-limited-ingredient-fish-dog-food 8% fiber https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-limited-ingredient-beef-recipe-hope 7.2% fiber https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-limited-ingredient-turkey-recipe-marvel 7% fiber https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-grain-free-fruit-veggie-base-mix-preference 8% fiber https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-grain-free-veggie-nut-seed-base-mix-kindly 8.5% fiber Please know that we and all of our retail partners offer a 90-day money-back guarantee on our products. What is carbs
Hi Mari, Carbs is in short for Carbohydrates. I hope this helps.
Would you recommend this food for a dog with struvite crystals in their urine?
Hi Shan, Thank you for contacting us. I am so sorry to hear about the urinary issues your companion is dealing with. We consult with a holistic veterinarian who has reviewed major to minor health issues our companions face and has made dietary recommendations. Although we don't make any prescription foods, we do have recipes that fit the feeding model for a pet that deals with UTIs, as they will need a diet with reduced protein, prosperous and magnesium. Moisture is also key in this case, so adding extra water to the food is suggested. Our top choice, in this case, is our Keen diet: **Dehydrated Grain Free Turkey** https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-turkey-dog-food Keen is a hearty dehydrated whole grain diet made with cage-free turkey, low-gluten oats, and garden vegetables like carrots and cabbage. I hope this helps and that you are having a great day! Stay well.
in your grain free turkey recipe, are there any organs in the food?
Hi Monika, We use just the muscle meat for all of them, unless otherwise listed in the ingredients, like "chicken liver". any time it says "chicken" or "turkey," that's just muscle meat. no tendons, bones, etc. The main reason we use strictly muscle meat in a majority of our recipes is because (even though its tasty to our pets) organ meat is very rich and can sometimes be harder for a pet with a sensitive tummy to digest. We use 100% muscle meat and some liver in our clusters but in our dehydrated food we use strictly muscle meat, no bone or organs. Since our recipes are meant to be easily digestible for all breeds and a majority of all stages, using muscle meat does not sit as rich or heavy like organ meat may for a pet with a sensitive stomach. However, the great thing about our diets is that you are more than welcome to add any organ meat of your choice for a boost of nutrients! I hope this helps. Cheers,
