Good pancreatitis option

"My 12 year old 50# dog was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Vet said to switch her to a low fat diet plus prescribed special Hills canned food. Customer service rep at Honest kitchen recommended dehydrated limited ingredient beef. High fat turkey clusters wouldn’t work anymore. Dog loves it. I feed her multiple small meals each day."

Love this product

"If you’re debating on the switch, this is your sign. I absolutely love this food for my dogs, real ingredients you can read. No fillers, preservatives. I have noticed a huge difference with my girls allergies."

Rebecca J. (5/5)

The limited ingredient, dehydrated beef

"The limited ingredient, dehydrated beef recipe saved my pup. This was the only food I found that she could eat after her bout with pancreatitis. She is a completely different dog after eating this food. She has a lot more energy and loves her food. Honestly, she could be a success story if you were ever to do an advertisement. When she hears me making her food, she dances and jumps. She gobbled her food down, and if she could have more, she would. I am so grateful for this company and saving my pup. THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!"

Perfect for my dog with allergies

"I used to make raw food for my pug - who seems to be allergic to everything except air. However, we now live full-time on an RV traveling the countryside. Making raw food is just too messy and I don't have the freezer space. I research dehydrated food and The Honest Kitchen had the best value and selection. I chose the limited ingredient beef because my pug is allergic to chicken. This product has been great. Sometimes I add organ meat, fruits, vegetables to supplement with fresh ingredients as well."

Kathleen S. (5/5)

Although my to adult dogs

"Although my to adult dogs don’t care for the beef flavored one my puppy sure did love it I’m gonna have to stick to the turkey and salmon for the adult dogs"

Theresa B. (5/5)

Love

"My dog is a picky eater so it's hard to find food she enjoys. She loves the turkey and beef! Eats it up immediately!"

Mary M. (5/5)

Wonderful choice for my picky cattledog!

"I have a larger than life cattledog (mix) and he loved the food. The food has a consistency of oatmeal - we added a little kibble and vitamins, and boom, instant success. Definitely worth trying!"

Jackie L. (5/5)

Limited ingredient beef

"My dogs are crazy about this food. As soon as I give it to them, they eat it immediately. They normally ate picky eaters."

Cathy S. (5/5)

High quality meals packed with

"High quality meals packed with nutrients! My pug absolutely loves it. I’ve noticed improvement to his coat, BM, and energy. Recommend!"

Juliana A. (5/5)

Excellent reaction to this food!

"Mikah loves all your food, but he does not tolerate oats. This was a simple solution that gives him everything he needs. I hope he will stay on this food for a long time as it works well for our lifestyle, too. We travel to dog shows where we compete in Obedience and Rally. It's easy to pack and make in a hotel room! Plus, he will always eat it!"

Q&A

How long does an unopened box of Wholemade Limited Ingredient Beef (grain free) stay shelf stable?
Hi CJ, Our dehydrated foods can be stored in their original packaging and, ideally, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. A lower pantry or kitchen cupboard works well. Our dehydrated foods have a shelf life of 12 months, depending on ambient temperatures and humidity. We don't recommend storing the dry food in the refrigerator because this exposes it to moisture. If you choose to place the dry food in the fridge or freezer, it must remain there for the duration of its use. Hope this helps!
I have run out of THK limited ingredient, grain free, beef dehydrated food for dogs. I mistakenly ordered regular grain free beef. I've also checked every local pet and feed store within a 25 mile radius to no avail. I've ordered the correct formula but need to feed my dog something this evening? Can purchase the ingredients locally and make a small batch until the food arrives?
If you're in a pinch and need to prepare a homemade meal, here’s a quick recipe you can try that will align somewhat with the limited ingredient approach until the correct formula arrives: ### Quick Beef Meal for Dogs 1. **Lean Ground Beef**: Cook ¼ to ½ lb thoroughly, and drain any excess fat. 2. **Sweet Potato or Pumpkin**: Use ¼ to ½ cup, mashed and cooked. Sweet potatoes or pumpkin can be a good carb option similar to what's in the THK formula. 3. **Spinach or Kale**: Add a small handful, chopped and lightly steamed. 4. **Flaxseed Oil or Coconut Oil** (optional): A teaspoon for healthy fats. **Instructions**: 1. Mix the cooked beef, mashed sweet potato/pumpkin, and greens together. 2. Let it cool before serving. This meal should be fine for a temporary solution, but ensure it’s just until the THK food arrives, as it won’t provide the balanced nutrition of the dehydrated food. If your dog has any specific sensitivities to these ingredients, let me know, and I can suggest alternatives.
I have 7 dogs to feed and I split their food into 2 feedings a day. It's a hassle mixing up 7 different sized bowls of food twice a day so I use an 8qt storage bowl to mix batches that last me about 2 days. I don't measure the amount of water I add. I just mix until it gets to the consistency that easy to serve up with a ¼ cup food scoop. Is measuring the amount of water added an important issue that I'm probably messing up?
Hi Becky, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen! You're good with regards to the water, we sometimes advise to add more and sometimes lessen. If your pets not having a bad reaction to it at all you're fine. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other concerns. All the best,
how much dehydrated beef should I feed my 70 pound standard poodle? is it a main food or is it to be used as a topper?
Our dehydrated recipes are complete and balanced, so they can be used as the primary source of nutrition for your pup. There's nothing else that needs to be added, aside from water. You're also welcome to use this as a topper for your dog if you'd like. We include feeding charts on the product pages on our website (for example: https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-chicken-dog-food) and on the packaging for each recipe. For a 70 pound dog on our dehydrated recipes, we'd recommend roughly 2.5-4.5 cups daily (plus water), depending on age and activity level. It's important to note that each dog is unique, with its own metabolism and dietary requirements, just like humans. If you feel that adjustments need to be made based on your dog's individual needs, that is perfectly acceptable. Some dogs may require less food, while others may require more.
Limited ingredients duck came up as an option for my dog with severe flaxseed allergy. However the list shows flaxseed ( the other limited ingredient recipes do not include flaxseed), is this a typo or is the search function incorrect
The Limited Ingredient Duck recipe **does** include flaxseed. Sorry about that! We have several recipes which do not have any flaxseed in them. You can find them at the link below: https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/collections/dog-dehydrated-food?refinementList%5Bmeta.nutrition.list_of_not_include%5D%5B0%5D=Flaxseed
