life saver

"my dog has severe food allergies. When he was diagnosed years ago, we were only able to get hydrolyzed protein prescription food. Honest Kitchen didn't have their limited ingredient line back then. More recently I googled to yet again look for something less processed that would not contain any of the known allergens and found one food on the market - honest kitchen's limited ingredient fish. My dog's coat has never been softer, he has more energy and despite having degenerative spine, he is moving better too. I am so thankful for this food and feel great to be able to feed him something not triple processed. As far as he is concerned, he is beyond excited at each mealtime. Thank you honest kitchen!!"

An answer to allergies

"I’m excited to have found food for my fur baby that has none of his allergens included. We recently discovered that he is allergic to so many common ingredients that finding a good food for him has been really challenging. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but at least a 10 lb box lasts a while."

Michele B. (4/5)

Maia loves it!

"We had tried fresh food do a while and she was thriving. However, we weren’t sure it was really better for her, and we went back to kibble. She’s been having issues with her digestion ever since, and she’s gained weight. Since we started on the 4# box we ordered, the fish line, she’s been gobbling it down and her poops are back to normal. Hoping she’ll continue to thrive. Just subscribed to the 10# box"

My dog is allergic to

"My dog is allergic to many different foods. Chicken being the main one. I have to be very careful on which product to buy for him. I have found this product to be very successful and he absolutely loves it. I highly recommend it."

"I use the dehydrated food and the dry for both my dogs. I have 2 large dogs so it hard to afford good quality food for 2 big dogs but there food is affordable and i see there health improving since being on this food. Would recommend this food!"

Non-food motivated dog does a happy dance for this food!

"My big boy is not food motivated. A bit of a skinny guy , always looks for tummy rub rewards vs treats. But he loves his fish dinner!!!! Paces for the three minutes it takes to get ready and then scampers and dances to his mat as soon as I pick up the bowl. Just have to keep the scary cats from trying to steal it!"

This brand is a blessing for dog owners

"This brand is a blessing! My bulldog is allergic to many many things (we get her allergy tested yearly) and this limited ingredient fish food is the only dog food she can have. It's a live saver in our house hold. The quality is amazing and it must be delicious because my dog gobbles up every bowl. She been on the food since she was 2 years old and she is now 10!"

How much sodium is in a cup of dehydrated fish? My dog is a cardiac patient
That's a great question. We have several fish recipes, so the sodium content will depend on which one you're considering. You can find full AAFCO Nutrient Profiles for each of our complete and balanced recipes on our website. To find these, just visit the recipe page for the recipe you're interested in (for example: https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/dehydrated-grain-free-turkey-dog-food), scroll down to 'NUTRITION' and you'll see a link that says "View Nutrient Profile." Example from one of our recipes: ![NUTRITION Calories protein: Fat: Fiber: Moisture: •per dry cup. u Nutrient profile 462 (kcal) per cup 24.5% 13.50% 12% ](https://thehonestkitchen.zendesk.com/attachments/token/1tNvnxLNJSJDUTxUSmcBgsms3/?name=inlineImage.png) ^^This link here: ^^ Although we don't make any prescription foods we do have recipes that fit the feeding model for low-sodium diets. Sodium is an essential nutrient that's required for the health of all dogs, even those with heart conditions, and it's an AAFCO requirement for a complete and balanced recipe. So, there will be at least a minimum amount of sodium present in any complete diet. For our customers who have been recommended by their vets/nutritionists to provide a low sodium diet to their dogs, here are the dehydrated recipes we suggest: Limited Ingredient Turkey Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-limited-ingredient-turkey-dog-food Sodium – 0.14% (DM) Whole Grain Turkey Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-turkey-dog-food Sodium – 0.14% (DM) Whole Grain Beef Recipe - 0.19% per cup 49.54 mg/100kcal https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-beef-dog-food Sodium – 0.21% (DM)
What is the shelf life of your dehydrated food? (5 years? 10 years)?
Our dehydrated recipes will have a "best by" date that reflects 15 months from the date of production - for our Base Mixes and Clusters recipes, 18 months. We can only guarantee the quality and freshness of our foods up to the "best by" date printed on the packaging and do not recommend feeding past this time.
Do I need to refrigerate the dehydrated foods or do you prepare per meal?
Hi there Meredith, Thanks for reaching out to us! Ideally, most customers prepare per meal, but you are welcome to prep before hand and store in the fridge. The food will last up to 3 days in the fridge.
My 5 year old Boston Terrier has been doing good on the Limited Ing. Fish recipe, however, lately she is having more bowel movements. I wonder if I am putting enough water to hydrate the food properly. I am using 1/2 dry to 2/3 cup warm water and wait 5 minutes. She's losing weight too. I wonder if she is digesting the food properly?
Hi there Jennifer, Thanks for reaching out to us! For some of our lower carb recipes, we recommend a 1:1 ratio of food to water. Of course, if you feel the food is still too watery, you can decrease the water amount even more. However, most of our diets hydrate to an oatmeal or baby food-like consistency, but they will vary due to each recipe's specific ingredients. Although, if your pup has recently is having tummy issues on the food, it could be that your pup developed an intolerance to the food.
