Very Happy and will continue.

"I have been using this product since my girls were puppies. I never have issues getting them to eat, and the one is a picky eater. I have tried several different products and have been very happy with the quality of all that I have purchased."

Deborah M. (5/5)

My dog loves this food!

"My three year old German Shepard loves this food. He eats it once a day in the evening."

Robert H. (5/5)

I like this mix

"First, I struggle with finding a food that both of my pitties can have. It usually isn’t the protein that gets me, but the fillers. One can’t have sweet potatoes, one can’t have white potatoes. I like that this mix has neither and I can usually get a whole pork loin fairly inexpensively. They both love this so much more than anything else I have fed them."

Carol Y. (5/5)

My Pups LOVE Honest Kitchen

"I have two dogs, a Cavapoo and a Beagle mix. They both LOVE the Grain Free Veggie, Nut and Seed Base Mix. We mix it with usually beef and they are excited every morning and evening for meal time. Our Beagle was previously gaining wait, but now is staying fit and has a lot more energy. I feel good knowing that they are getting a nutritious meal and best of all it is so easy to prepare!"

Rebecca D. (5/5)

Delicious Base Mix

"My pets love this stuff. Easy to combine with fresh protein as well."

John B. (5/5)

Terrific product!

"The quality is superior and our dogs gobble it up!"

C T. (5/5)

Allergy Dog in the House!

"We're feeding this to our Cardigan Corgi who has had environmental allergies forever now, and our recent change to HK seems to have had a positive effect on his coat. It might not fix the environmental issues, but being as healthy as he can be otherwise can't hurt anything at all!"

Dee (5/5)

So far so good

"We had been feeding Lily (58 lb 2. 5 yrs highly active terrier-based mutt) 1/2 Farmers Dog and 1/2 Acana kibble. I kept doing research and learned about Honest Kitchen. We bought this add-meat base and have replaced the Acana kibble with it (we're using ground beef to start). Lily eats the Honest Kitchen food before the Farmers Dog, and she's had no stomach or digestive trouble with the change. We're planning to transition to 100% Honest Kitchen as we run through our remaining Farmers Dog food."

James C. (5/5)

Excellent!

"LOVE all 3 Honest Kitchen base mixes (I rotate them)! A simple, quality means by which to support my raw feeding program."

Debbie H. (5/5)

Q&A

Question/concern here. Just this base mix alone provides 1.74% calcium and 1.03% phosphorus. Then pet parents are adding meat, which contains calcium and phosphorus. Per AAFCO guidelines, it is important to monitor calcium and phosphorus intake for adult dogs. Many people follow your instructions and do not think of this. Too much calcium and phosphorus can lead to health complications. This is not responsible. Please evaluate this.
Hi Courtney, It's recommended that excessive amounts of Calcium and calories be avoided in large and giant breed pups, (especially during the crucial first 4-6 months of rapid growth) because of their increased propensity to develop bone and joint problems later in life. Hope this helps!

Hello, my dog is supposed to have around 22-26g of protein a day. I’ve transitioned him from half kibble, half cooked protein to half of your seed base and half cooked protein. The nutrition says 1cup of the mix has 14g but is that dry or once water activated? I don’t want to overfeed my pup so having this info would be appreciated!
Hi Eunice, Measurement is per dry cup. I hope this helps.
How much protein do I add? I don't see anywhere on the description where is gives the amount of protein. Hopefully, I'm not just missing it. Thank you.
Hi Linda, ![](https://thehonestkitchen.zendesk.com/attachments/token/QUj2wAm569yJKXsRiQB4TAfQt/?name=inlineImage.png) Hope this helps!
We are looking into your base mixes and would like to know in grams how much protein to add to have a complete and balanced meal. The directions on the box calls for measurements in cups. That can vary quite a bit on it's own, let alone if your using ground or chopped meats. Actually, it would be nice to know the amount of the mix by weight as well. Measuring portions by weight is far more accurate. Thank you.
Hi Jean, Apologies, we normally have our measurements in cups. But, here's a site we use for conversions https://www.convertunits.com I hope this helps. All the best,

You can use a variety of protein options to complete these recipes. Popular options include ground turkey and cooked chicken.

Many customers find the Greater Goods Nourish Digital Kitchen Scale and Nutrition Data useful for nutritional data around different protein options.

While we can’t verify these tools, they may be a helpful starting point for selecting a protein option that's best for your pet. For optimal nutrition, we recommend consulting a trusted veterinarian.

Each pound of Base Mix equates to about 4 dry cups of food.

Find your dog's daily feeding amount using the feeding guidelines. Divide that amount by the total dry cups in your chosen box (see below).

3 lb box = 12 dry cups
7 lb bag= 28 dry cups

Example: A 30 lb dog with an average activity level is recommended 1/2 dry cups per day. If you purchase a 7 lb box (28 dry cups), it will last 56 days.
