Reviews

My dog transitioned very smoothly and LOVES it

"My dog went from being a "grazer" who would never eat her entire bowl of food in one sitting unless I added something to it, to eating the whole thing plain when I switched to the Honest Kitchen. She LOVES the food and it never appeared to upset her stomach during the transition."

Joy A. (5/5)

Okay

"Our dogs don’t devour it, but they will eat it. We are pleased with the ingredients. The bottom 1/4 of every bag that we have received has been crushed, powdery dog food “dust”, which is frustrating with the cost per bag."

Kelly K. (3/5)

A nutritious, more affordable option

"I’ve been feeding my dog the honest kitchen for years and love that this is a little more affordable of an option. His coat is nice and shiny, and despite having cancer, is still with us in part because of a good diet."

Briana O. (5/5)

My Dogs Lover This Food

"Just started my dogs on this food along with the topper. They LOVE it. Its a win win situation. My dogs great great dog food and topper and the topper does smell up the house, it stores perfectly in the cabinet and its easy to mix."

Karen D. (5/5)

Happy dog!

"Just recently transitioned to this food from the original clusters and my dog loves it! I have been feeding her the honest kitchen for years and don’t have any complaints!"

Izzy (5/5)

Disappointment

"Very excited to find Honest Kitchen products, promising to be glyphosate free. However the kibble arrived 30% dust (not in kibble form, but disintegrated). I've purchased freezedried online before and it CAN arrive whole. It needs to be packaged appropriately. Underwhelmed and disappointed, to say the least."

Leslie S. (1/5)

Best dog food ever!

"Luna loves it and enjoys eating 2x a day! I’ve seen changes in her coat and less pink skin! She’s also showing way more energy!"

Christina Z. (5/5)

Well received and an easy transition

"My Kona absolutely loves her kibble. She sits at attention and drools until I release her to eat, every single time. Her health and weight have greatly improved since we have her on Honest Kitchen. She is lean and healthy and has great energy."

JUSTIN F. (5/5)

Happy Dogs Every Time

"We have 3 pit mixes, and they’ve always loved their honest kitchen. Back when I had only one dog I purchased the dehydrated food, but after adopting 3, I needed a more affordable option. I’m so glad you make the Essential Clusters. It’s comforting knowing that they are getting a high quality human grade option but that works for our budget. Our dogs are 6, 9 and 16 and all of them love meal time!"

Regina K. (5/5)

"Our dog loves the honest kitchen food and treats!"

Q&A

What is the mg of omega 3, EPA and DHA separately, per cup of food?
Hi there! Thanks so much for reaching out. We're not permitted to make any conversions using the nutrient profiles we provide, unfortunately. This is in case we were to miscalculate and provide you with the wrong values. Sorry about that! However, I'm happy to help you find what you're looking for. Here's a nutrient converter that a lot of our customers like to use: https://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2017/08/nutrient_converter/ Click the link and scroll down to bottom calculator should look like this: ![](https://thehonestkitchen.zendesk.com/attachments/token/7QUXtGOTvQ4p79uhZMXMJxsAQ/?name=inlineImage.png) If you enter the kcal/kg listed on the nutrient profile for this recipe, along with the percentage value of the nutrient you're looking for, this converter will tell you how many g or mg of that nutrient are in every 100 kcal of this recipe. Then you would just need to find how many kcals you're feeding per day to figure out the total daily value of this nutrient in grams/milligrams. You can also use these conversions below. **Conversion to determine mg of a nutrient per 100 kcals:** To determine the mg of any nutrient per 100 kcals, for example sodium, you would start by taking the sodium percentage of the recipe and multiplying it by 10000 (the number of mg/kg; 1 percent = 10,000 mg/kg) to determine the mg of sodium per kg of the food. Then, take that number (the mg sodium/kg) and divide that by the number of kcals per kg (provided on the box of each recipe). This gives you the mg of sodium per kcal. To determine the mg of sodium per 100 kcal, you would just multiply that final result by 100. **Conversion to determine mg of a nutrient per serving: ** To determine the mg of any nutrient per serving, for example sodium, you would start by taking the sodium percentage and multiplying it by 10000 (the number of mg/kg; 1 percent = 10,000 mg/kg) to determine the mg of sodium per kg of the food. Then, take that number (the mg sodium/kg) and divide that by the number of kcals per kg (provided on the box of each recipe). This gives you the mg of sodium per kcal. You would then take your serving amount, for example ¼ cup, and determine the approximate calories per serving. For WG Turkey for example, the calories/cup are 470. Multiply that number by the serving size (25% for ¼ cup) to get the calories/serving. Then, take your calories for the serving size you’re looking for and multiply that number by the mg of sodium per kcal you determined to figure out the mg of sodium per serving. I hope this helps! Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. Thanks so much,
Does the preparation process of the clusters avoid the production of Advanced Glycation End Products?
Thank you for your thoughtful question about Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) in our clusters. We appreciate your attention to this important aspect of pet food quality. Our MadeHonest™ preparation process is specifically designed to minimize AGE formation through several key factors. The clusters are gently dehydrated at low temperatures (below 200°F), which significantly reduces the potential for AGE development compared to high-heat processing methods like extrusion used in traditional kibble production. This low-temperature approach helps preserve the integrity of proteins and other nutrients while avoiding the browning reactions that typically generate AGEs. While pet food industry standards don't currently require specific AGE testing, our preparation methods align with research-supported techniques for minimizing these compounds. The Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition has published findings showing that low-temperature drying better preserves protein quality compared to high-heat processing.
What is the difference between the Whole Grain Chicken Essential clusters and the Whole Grain Chicken Clusters?
Hi Melissa, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen. Both Whole Food Clusters and Essential Clusters are 100% human grade and made using our MadeHonest™ process—which cold-presses, roasts, and gently dehydrates each batch to lock in nutrition and flavor. They’re crafted in a human food facility with high safety and quality standards and never include GMO ingredients or fillers like corn, wheat, or soy. The key differences come down to ingredients and variety: - **Essential Clusters** are made with healthy whole grains, high-quality protein, and the essential vitamins and minerals dogs need to thrive. They’re ideal for adult and senior dogs and include dual-protein options. - **Whole Food Clusters** build on that foundation with added superfoods like broccoli, kale, and carrots for extra health benefits. They also feature single-protein recipes and are boosted with probiotics to support digestion. This line also includes options tailored to puppies and small breed dogs. Please let me know if you have any other concerns. All the best,
How many meals will a 20 pound bag serve for a 34 pound beagle?

  • Essential Clusters are made with healthy whole grains, high-quality protein, and the essential vitamins and minerals dogs need to thrive. They’re ideal for adult and senior dogs and include dual-protein options.
  • Whole Food Clusters build on that foundation with added superfoods like broccoli, kale, and carrots for extra health benefits. Each pound of Essential Clusters equates to about 4 dry cups of food.

Find your dog's daily feeding amount using the feeding guidelines.

Divide that amount by the total dry cups in your chosen box (see below).

1 lb bag= 4 dry cups
5 lb bag= 20 dry cups
20 lb bag = 80 dry cups

Example:

A 30 lb dog with an average activity level is recommended 1.5 dry cups per day.

If you purchase a 20 lb bag (80 dry cups), it will last 53 days.
